The Brief
The client contacted us after they were concerned about a textured ceiling coating (commonly known as Artex) within their property. As the home was of an age where asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) may be present, the client wanted the area tested before carrying out any renovation works.
Textured ceiling coatings were commonly used in homes across the UK, particularly during the 1970s and 1980s. These coatings were often applied to create decorative finishes or to cover cracks and imperfections. Although they can often remain low risk when in good condition and left undisturbed, they should always be tested before any work is carried out.
There were signs of disturbance in the ceiling coating, so the client wanted confirmation of whether asbestos was present or not.
What We Did
Our team first attended the property to take a sample from the textured ceiling coating. This was sent for professional analysis, which later confirmed the presence of asbestos.
Once the result was confirmed, we planned the removal works carefully to ensure the safety of both our operatives and the residents. The ceiling was removed under controlled conditions using the correct methods and equipment for the material involved.
After the asbestos-containing ceiling had been safely removed, the area was thoroughly cleaned and prepared for reinstatement. The ceiling was reboarded and skimmed, helping return the room to a finished standard.
The Results
The project was completed safely and efficiently by our team of fully licensed asbestos removers, and the reinstatement of the ceiling was organised for the next day for minimal disruption to the client. Once the asbestos ceiling had been removed and the reinstatement works completed over the two days, the room was left clean, tidy, and ready for decoration.
