Some of the most common questions we get asked at Midlands Asbestos Solutions have to do with asbestos garages. These include:
- Is my asbestos garage safe?
- Can I leave my asbestos garage standing?
- I’m looking at buying a new house but it has an asbestos garage, what do I do?
The answer to all of these questions is simple.
It all depends on the condition that the asbestos material is in.
Think of it this way, if you had a piece of wood which looked structurally fine, it isn’t weathered, rotting or deteriorating, would you replace it? The answer is probably no. This is because it’s in good condition and it’s still doing the job.
With asbestos cement in garages (both on the roof and the walls), this is the same situation. The asbestos cement will be fine left in situ if it’s in good condition and isn’t damaged, cracked, seriously weathered or looking structurally unsafe.
When should you consider removal?
Asbestos cement is extremely hard-wearing and can last for years. But there are circumstances where you may wish to have it removed. For example, they are an eyesore, you want something more modern or you’re just concerned about the safety of it.
At Midlands Asbestos Solutions, we can offer a full garage removal solution and be with you every step of the way. We can safely dismantle and remove the whole garage if it’s all asbestos cement, or just the roof if the structure is made from another material apart from asbestos such as breeze-blocks, bricks or all timber or metal.
